This is Jonny and he just got a 25k grant to build his idea Greenshields. It’s a simple concept, he wants to attach a piece of plexi glass to the windshield of school buses to make them more aerodynamic.
Leaving Indianpolis, but have to make a stop at the famous Shapiro’s—everyone in town insisted we grab lunch here…AND BOY DID WE! Nothing like coconut cream pie, pickles and matzo ball soup for a well balanced meal.
On the Northwestern University campus today in Evanston, IL and ran into Lulu. It seems that she’s been getting sick eating all the garbage on campus and we agreed that cleaning up the campus is a very inspiring idea for everyone. Are you sensing a theme here?
A couple in Indiana won the 5k Refresh grant for their project, Homespun—a new store/community center/gallery. Amanda and Neil have been doing an indy craft market, giving craft artisans a place to sell their goods for years in Indianapolis and now want a permanent home base for all their artists. So, with the help of the grant, you’ll be able to walk into Homespun anytime and take classes to learn more about the art of glass cutting or peruse their gallery filled with tattoo art or purchase a perfectly cross stitched “All Your Base Belong To Us”. KEWL.
We rolled into Evanston yesterday to meet one teenager who possibly has one of the simplest solutions to saving the planet, one school bus at a time. I mean he made a wind tunnel with his sister for the video. Really???!!!!
Charlottesville, like I said, is one of the coolest towns ever. We went to a Silent Disco. What’s a SILENT DISCO??? I’m glad you asked. You get a pair of wireless headphones that are tuned into the same channel where a DJ is playing disco music…and you dance….in SILENCE. Our director, Joey Garfield and Zachary Mortensen were the first ones on the dance floor.
We’re on the road for 3 weeks…it’s like a giant college road trip, only we’re a lot cornier. This is our team, who you’ll get to know. We do a lot of stretching and sun salutating while waiting to get to our next town.
This is our little buddy we met in Charlottesville. He’s so new that his white spots are PINK!!!! Can we take him on the road….PLEEEEEEEEEAZE?????
So, we just left our first stop, Charlotesville, Virginia-which could be one of the coolest towns I’ve ever been in. It’s like Austin meets Berkeley, two of my favorite cities. We rolled into town on our giant BLUE PEPSI REFRESH bus and caused quite a stir. Students came by, talked to us about what they would do with the Pepsi grant and the local news came by to check us out. I love local news…I mean the anchor starts off with, “I want my MTV…”, HILARIOUS.
